In the first of many things to come The American Monarchist will be posting recipes developed by One in one's own kitchen.
There are times when recipes are based on others' original recipes and in those instances One will give all due credit. One must state up front on having a long time cook/boy crush on celebrity chef Jamie Oliver, and he is many of One's inspirations throughout the years in the kitchen since first seeing Mr. Oliver's early cooking show The Naked Chef on PBS. With that said, there are many recipes that will have many similarities to Mr. Oliver's, as One has adopted many of Mr. Oliver's thought processes when cooking; being able to provide wholesome, healthy food cooked in your home kitchen without breaking the bank most importantly.
So many homes here in the American Colonies are food insecure and lack the basic real home economics education that they should have been given in school, if not at home. Delving back in One's own history, "Home Ec" as it was known as when One was in the 7th or 8th grade at school, was nothing about the economics of running a home as it should have been; giving students a basis in food costing, how to scale a recipe to fit your family, not to mention how to make a dollar stretch. To be fair, One had an unfair advantage as One had been cooking with One's Mother, GrandMothers, GrandFather Aunts, Uncles, and when quite quite young even have memories of my Great-GrandMother standing at the stove, since I was quite young, and having the influence of those who learned to live with very little during the Depression. My family is large on both of One's Mother and Father's sides, making cooking for large numbers second nature. This half of a year class, was about sewing a pillow from a kit, making what was called "tomato sauce", and cooking some other basic recipes. While One applauds the effort to teach people how to boil water and cook an egg, it would have helped to have also added in some nutrition and how to shop as well as cook a healthy well balanced meal on a budget.
